Making tortillas is a fine skill and joyful family event,

Working together as a community

is something the families of this village do

with love and generosity.

Café

An enormous amount of work is involved in growing and processing coffee. Learning about the whole process enhanced my appreciation of the marvelous taste of fresh roasted Guatemalan coffee. The energizing flavor and aroma were so wonderful. It was a new experience to participate in the final stages of the preparation of the coffee. It was a unique gift to share this with the wonderful, hard working and dedicated people of the village.

Mission of Love and the Saint Francis Farm

Our family's inspiration to serve Jesus through a Catholic Worker Movement mission began many years ago. Grandma Marie spoke often of the work of Dorothy Day, whom she admired and at one time met in person. A seed was planted then, and watered years later by a visit to the.
We will always be grateful for the wonderful time we spent with the lovely family serving there. We enjoyed planting, walking and singing with them. They taught us how to make goat's milk cheese, and shared useful tips with us when we first started raising our own goats. We were given a gift by this family that flourished and grew, just like the lovely mint plant they gave us.
God's timing is perfect. He nurtured our desire to serve, and when He felt we were ready, He presented us with His plan.
The series of events that lead to the birth of the Stanley Rother CathoLic Worker Mission, were no coincidence. God's beautiful and loving plan unfolded before us. By introducing us to the beautiful families in Vista Hermosa Guatemala, He brought us into His mission of love.
Following Jesus is always an amazing adventure!

While visiting the Guatemalan countryside,
we were surrounded with so much beauty!
The depth of God's love is immeasurable.
The hope and faith we witnessed in the families there
was life changing
drawing our hearts, one step at a time,
closer to the heart of God.

Esquipulas, a beautiful pilgrimage

A visit to the Basilica of el Cristo Negro de Esquipulas is truly life changing! The uplifting inspiration of God's beauty as seen in the lush surrounding mountainous landscape, the Basilica and its religious icons, the Cristo Negro shrine,  and the reverent faces of the many, many pilgrims is unforgettable.

This is a place of miraculous love and healings. Faith filled pilgrims for all over the world come to pray and sing and attend Mass.  All are blessed and consoled by the merciful love and presence of Jesus.

In this place families and friends worship together, openly and abundantly expressing their gratitude and needs without reservation. Reverence and love are the hallmarks of the beautiful prayers lifted up to Heaven from the hearts of the pilgrims.

It is customary for families to make yearly pilgrimages together to humbly pray for the miraculous assistance of Our Lord and Our Holy Mother Mary. So many miracles have happened here. Our own family, in Guatemala and the USA, has been blessed in so any ways! We pray that we will be able to return as a family to visit this beautiful basilica again.
